As accountants for many small to medium sized businesses we have visited a number of business related websites. Some provide an invaluable reference source for UK businesses. Of course, please remember that we are not responsible for the content of these sites.
The Department of Trade and Industry (http://www.dti.gov.uk/) We like it. This is an genuinely informative site from the DTI. We find the site particularly useful for details of employment legislation. Hull Office of the Federation of Small Businesses (http://www.hullfsb.co.uk/) Hull branch of the Federation of Small Businesses. Although we are members, personally we do not find the site particularly useful. The site provides information about the Federation and the benefits of joining. It is similar in style to the more informative national site (http://www.fsb.org.uk/). Hull Business Link (http://www.humbersidetec.co.uk/) Home page of the Hull Business Link with a nice design but not much in the way of solid information and not all that useful. Strathclyde University (www.dis.strath.ac.uk/business/) This site at Strathclyde University provides a large collection of useful business links. Also at Strathclyde University the following site provides a multitude of useful business information (www.business.dis.strath.ac.uk). http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/ Just what the address says it is - lots of money information and resources both for business and personal use. http://www.ukonlineforbusiness.gov.uk/ Another DTI government site - useful. http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/ Direct to Companies House - provides a free search facility on company names. http://www.natwest.co.uk/ NatWest Bank, of course. http://www.business.barclays.net/ Barclays Bank. http://www.clearlybusiness.com Newish site being a joint effort by Barclays and Freeserve. It includes some good advice. We liked the section on how to choose your accountant. http://www.ybonline.co.uk/ Yorkshire Bank. http://www.banking.hsbc.co.uk/ HSBC Bank. http://www.rbs.co.uk/ Royal Bank of Scotland. http://www.websights.co.uk/ Web site host & site designer. Get your domain name here. Nice people, (I hope so! Although they did not design this web site, I did pinch a few ideas from their own web pages) http://www.isi.gov.uk/ Information Society Initiative web site providing a whole host of information.
